Sir James McNeill Scholarship at Monash University in Australia 2022

The Sir James McNeill Scholarship (SJMN) is fully sponsored by a private trust. It founded in memory of the late Sir James McNeill, who had an extensive and deep association with Monash University.

Sir James McNeill Scholarship is completely funded for international students who become beneficiaries of this scholarship. It is awarded for Master’s and Ph.D. research studies only. This program covers yearly living stipend of $36,200, relocation stipend of $550, and yearly research allowance of $1,500. Sir James McNeill Scholarship is available for research that is both environmentally responsible and socially advantageous, and also helps assist a student with living expenses whilst studying at Monash.

Monash University is a public research academia located in Melbourne, Australia. The institution of higher education has many campuses, four of which are in Victoria (Clayton, Caulfield, Peninsula, and Parkville), and one in Malaysia. Monash University also has a research and learning center in Prato, Italy, a graduate research school in Mumbai, India, and a graduate school in Suzhou, China. Monash University courses are accessible at other places in the world, including South Africa.

Eligibility for Sir James McNeill Scholarship

To be eligible for Sir James McNeill Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Required Language: English.
    • English Language Test requirements for General: (6.5) overall (no band less than 6.0) in IELTS, and (79 +) Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 & Writing 21 in TOEFL.
    • English Language Test requirements for Arts, Business and Economics: (7) overall (no band less than 6.5) in IELTS, and (94 +) Reading 19, Listening 20, Speaking 20 & Writing 24 TOEFL.
  • Eligible Countries: All countries in the world
    • An International student.
    • A New Zealand citizen.
    • An Australian citizen.
    • Australian permanent resident.
    • Australian humanitarian visa holder.
  • Check the requirements for admission to research master’s according to field of study from here.
  • Have qualifications which in the opinion of GRC are considered equivalent.
  • Scholarships are granted based on candidate’s academic record, research output and prior research experience.
  • Shouldn’t have earlier held an Australian Government or Monash-funded Postgraduate Research Award for over six months.
  • Should have submitted a scholarship application in the present year.
  • Be undertaking research that is both environmentally responsible and socially advantageous.

How to Apply for Sir James McNeill Scholarship

To apply for Sir James McNeill Scholarship, please follow the following application guidelines:

  1. Applicants need to get an invitation to apply, before they apply. To get one, Applicants will need to complete an expression of interest and/or find a supervisor who agrees to supervise their research. This is subject to the faculty/institute.
  2. Register for Graduate Research Admission and Scholarship, by click on “Apply Now“.
  3. All aspects of online application are explained here.
  4. Specify that you desire to be considered for a scholarship on the application form. There is no need to fill out a different application form.

Applicants do not have to state which scholarship they are applying as they are automatically eligible for all graduate research scholarships (where qualified).

  • Academic CV.
  • Official academic transcripts, degree certificate or testamur from awarding institution (including an explanation of the grading schema).
  • Evidence of citizenship.
  • Evidence of satisfying the English language proficiency conditions.
  • Invitation to Apply.
  • Research proposal.
